Boston’s Top American Talbi Reveals He Wore Glasses to Avoid Detection as Contender

BOSTON — After misleading competitors into thinking he wasn’t a threat, Zouhair Talbi finished fifth overall at the 2026 Boston Marathon, earning top American honors and setting an American course record of 2:03:15 thanks solely to a pair of cosmetic glasses he wore throughout the race.

Following the race, Talbi outlined his approach in an interview:

“I won’t lie, having to wear the pair of spectacles definitely sucked, but it was totally worth it to lull my fellow competitors into a false sense of security,” Talbi said, tossing the eyewear into a trash can. “I knew the psychological advantage of not being taken seriously for wearing frames would outweigh any physical disadvantage from the extra weight. I’m just glad I didn’t stick with my original plan of using a monocle. I couldn’t get it to stay in place without compromising my form.”

According to sources, Talbi was confident his “four-eyes” disguise would provide him with an advantage none of the other professional runners could replicate and, propelling him to a level they would never consider lowering themselves to.

Born with 20/20 vision, Talbi, 31, said he developed the idea through years of watching American cinema that consistently depicts glasses-wearers as “unathletic intellectuals.”

His strategy proved effective, as the lead pack ignored Talbi for the full 26.2 miles, at no point acknowledging that he was running alongside them.

At press time, Talbi was reportedly considering switching to bright red contact lenses to intimidate the competition in his next race.
